I haven’t posted on this in a long time, and that’s my fault. Things have been really busy for a while, and I feel like, for the most part, I have a very limited amount of time to listen to music (which really sucks). Lately, I’ve really been wondering how my friends, who always seem to be on top of every new band in existence, keep up with it all. Maybe I’m just lazy…
Anyways, I’m not normally one to post something personal on a blog like this, but, I just wanted to take a second to say something - This afternoon, I was in my car for an extended period, and decided to throw on Caught In The Trees. I hadn’t listened to it lately (been listening to Saint Bartlett when I listen to Jurado), and Go First came on. I don’t know what it is about Jenna’s part in that song, but having not heard it in some time, in made me break into tears as I was driving. For some reason, that part (for me) is exactly what it needs to be. The song is, already, beyond amazing, but her part just touched me in that moment.
I think it’s a testament, not only to Damien’s music, but to music in general, that a great artist can add those little moments, in such a way that they fit perfectly in a particular song (though may not work for another), and those little touches can so effect a member of the audience. There are other bands that have done the same - inserted a little guitar part, or a minor vocal harmony, or something, but that little piece (and it may only be a few seconds), fits so incredibly well in that song, at that moment in time, that it takes it to another level. I think it’s also a testament to Damien that so much of his work has those amazing little moments. Not in every song, but sprinkled throughout an album.
